Introduction

Most things can be dyed perfectly with food coloring or drawing ink. Depending on the material, you have to consider different processes and properties.

You can help us making the Wunderwerkstatt more beautiful. If you buy something through our affiliate links, you support us effectively.

Nudeln in der Bin

Pasta

Fill some food coloring and a spriz of vinegar or the liquid easter egg dye in the bag.

Add the pasta, close the bag and shake well. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes and shake every once in a while.

Spread the pasta on a paper towel and let it sit until dry.

farbiger Reis

Rice

Fill some food coloring and a dash of vinegar or the liquid easter egg dye in the bag. Add rice, zip the bag and shake well. Let it sit for 10-20 Minutes and shake every once in a while.

OR: Put the food coloring and vinegar or the liquid easter egg dye in a bowl, add rice and stire until all of the color is absorbed.

Spread the rice on a paper towel and let it sit until dry.

From my experiece I can tell that using a ziploc bag makes the colors more intense.

You can add some scent to the rice by adding some essential oils or by adding dryed herbs or flowers like lavender, rosemary or chamomille.

Kichererbsen löffeln

Chickenpeas

Fill a ziploc bag with food coloring and vinegar or liquid easter egg dye. Add chickpeas, zip the bag and shake well.

Spread the peas on a paper towel as soon as they are covered in dye and let them dry for some minutes.

Bohnen-Regenbogen

Beans

Fill a ziploc bag with food coloring or liquid easter egg dye.

Add beans, zip the bag and shake well but only for a short period of time. Only shortly because otherwise the peel of the beans can come off.

OR: Mix the dye and beans in a bowl for a short period of time with a spoon.

Spread the beans on a paper towel, make sure the beans don't touch and let them dry.

Mais im Planschbecken

Corn

Fill a ziploc bag or a cup with food coloring and a large dash of vinegar or with liquid easter egg dye.

Add corn, close bag and shake or stire. Its best to allow to"infuse" in the dye over night.

Spread the corn on a paper towel and let it dry (very long)

gefärbter Hafer

Grain (Oats, Spelt)
